Meanwhile in Texas... Man 1: Thank god Governor Perry ordered the Texas National Guard to repel the brown kid invasion. Man 2: And thank god my volunteer militia is here too. This is how things got crazy at the Alamo!
The primary reason for the Texians to rebel against Mexico was that they had agreed to come to Texas with their slaves. Mexico changed their constitution, which they did every few years back then, to outlaw slavery. So, Texans have the unique history of having fought two wars to defend slavery.
Actually not just the Texans but the US learned that repeating arms win against the single shot rifles of the Mexicans (of British vintage). San Jacinto led to the war of 1848 were half of Mexican territory was taken. Baja California was spared because President Polk said we had enough desert. Anyway, it wasn’t even a “conquest” as in the end it was bought since we had to bribe some Mexicans to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In 1848 Mexico was doomed in part because the Mexican elite (of Spanish blood) wanted nothing to do with the “natives”. Eventually the “natives” with Benito Juarez and Porfirio Diaz took over.BTW Mexico abolished slavery in 1827.
If you think that the Texans were the only people with slaves, look up the story behind The Yellow Rose of Texas.[]The real-life Rose was a woman who Santa Anna kidnapped during his campaign in Texas and kept as a sex slave.[]This was actually how the Texans won at San Jacinto: Anna was in such a hurry to force himself upon her that he failed to give orders concerning how the Mexican forces should set up sentries. Without orders from Anna, the Mexican soldiers decided that it must not have been important and so regarded it as a sign that they basically had the day off. []With no sentries around the camp and the soldiers sleeping in, Sam Houston’s men were able to assault the camp with only token opposition. Anna reportedly escaped wearing only his underwear.
