I don’t blame Agnes for wanting a few things in her life that aren’t tawdry….and I hope she rises out of poverty one day.But I also hope she’ll realise that 100% perfection is an unattainable and heart-breaking goal.
There are so many things that are just fine at…oh… maybe 90%… and stopping there gives you time to enjoy them.
Meanwhile, if you have a true friend like Trout; if you can pick and eat a ripe back-yard tomato, smell an old-fashioned rose, lie in the sunshine on a lazy day…..no rich person can buy a better one.
I’ve been cleaning out closets and de-cluttering. I looked around me and realized that if anyone broke into my house, we have precious little to get stolen. There was comfort in that.
No one can live her life better than she does. She is the best at that, and has a good best friend to help.
If this were a real life scenario I wonder what Agnes would grow up to be? I think she would be a good comedienne, in the footsteps of Rita Rudner, Kathy Griffen, et.al.

From an old country song (by Ferlin Husky, I think)—-
The wealthiest personIs a pauper at timesCompared to the manWith a satisfied mind.
