So three days ago Dick was outside with the photographer. Yesterday he’s inside. Now he’s outside again. We’ve established that the writers are incapable of doing anything interesting, but can we at least expect them to stick to their own unimaginative premises? Yeeeeeesh.
Hey, is that Sam Katchem doing a cameo in the first panel? On his way to pick up an unemployment check? And why is Dick’s head so vastly larger than the photographer he’s standing behind in the second panel? Panel 3, well, it’s an okay drawing of a character who is apparently the villain, though it’s hard to tell from the crappy writing.
Fightsuit, Gulfcoastgrl: I don’t think Dick has his arm around the photographer. I think that Mr. Brozman decided that Diet Smith needed to give the police department a new mobile camera by welding one to the face of his one armed “Cam Eralens” robot.
Spurning the use of his detective skills
As smoke wafts from the window sills
Chancing everything on a whim
Logic affected by his swim
Tracy and camera guy too
Watch the crowd to see what they would do
Was there ever a plot as worse as this
It has the smell of equine
Of the events that just occurred
Tracy’s premise is most absurd
To the scene of the crime bombers do not return
A lesson Tracy seems to have never learned
Many questions he needs to be ask
Will Tracy rise to the task
How right you are Jumbo, a casual presentation of an unemloyed (or “underemployed”) Sam Catchem, milling in the curious crowd and wondering why fate has delt such an unkind blow (?)
Could this be Locher’s way of ‘sticking a finger’ to US for the caustic but largly accurate reviews we’ve been giving his careless work here ?
Some years ago I believe (or would like to ;) he did the same thing using a villain name - “Syd Sacks.” (late 1998), … coming on the heels of a series of unfavorable “critiques” in “artickes” in a D.T. “FAN” magazine I knew he read.. The technique was clever and rather subtle. By the simple change of a “vowel” the rogues name became a ”message” …
SYD S U CKS. ;)
Perhaps he thought that was somehow cunning and brilliant as the PUNS he makes with such frequency in the strip these days (?)
I think Tracy DOES have his arm around the photographer holding the camera. The photographer is keeping him steady since Tracy’s still shaky from the FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOM and the gurgles…or it could be one of those “police brotherhood” moments…
And as I’m here let me note I rather like bassmanbob’s skill and choice of “illustration”.
But it may have been more appropriate and in “even” step if he had posted it as BASSMANBOB ”2”, rather that waiting until HE had moved up to BB “three” !
Actually, holding the camera with one hand is not a problem. I do it all the time, especially when shooting on the fly from a car or my Goldwing. However, every camera I have ever operated has the shutter button on the right side. So holding it with his left hand and taking pictures might be a bit of a challenge.
What’s the weather like at the embassy? Virgil Ohso is sitting in a heated car with a scarf around his neck. The bystanders outside are in their shirts, the wide angle photographer has an open jacket and tracy is in his wrinkle-free tux.

Can I just say that again? CRAPPY WRITING.

Virgil Ohso is his own crowd….

So…
Dick is attributing to terrorist bombers the same M.O. as that of a compulsive arsonist? They’re two completely different types of criminal, actually.
And just by some miraculous coincidence, the bad guy’s behavior is matching Dick’s baseless prediction?
FLIGHT SUIT almost 15 years ago
But never mind. What photographer holds the camera up to his face with just one hand? That does not make for a steady shot.
Strangely enough, it almost looks like Dick’s got his arm around the photographer, and is holding the camera up to his face for him.

Chris Shendo, unlike Locher and Brozman, is a true artist.

That person in the first panel on the left side looks familiar. Didn’t he use to work with Tracy years ago?

Definately it’s a modern version of Sam Catchem in panel 1. Except for Dick’s face it’s the best drawn head in today’s strip.

Welcome back, Sam (Catchum)!

Maybe Locher will have so confused himself in details that Sam will be the bomber. It probably pays more, anyway.

According to Google, today is Antonio Vivaldi’s birthday! Let’s all celebrate by playing “Ode to a G string” on a loaded Stradivarius!
Ray_C almost 15 years ago
Good idea, but make it “Ode to High C” instead?

So using Dick’s logic, we should have been looking for Bin Laden in Soho.

BB3, I’m waiting on those details, as are all the others who responded.
That new illustration looks like Obama in skis like in Locher’s Editorial Cartoon - today
Before you go, look beyond the Sam Catchem (distraction) and note how weak and flaky the ART has become.
