    Most allegations of cannibalism by Washington were initially inspired by “The Washingtonians” and numerous stories without a solid proof.

    However, scientists in 2013 found archaeological evidence that earliest American colonists at Jamestown, Va., survived harsh conditions by turning to cannibalism, which would seem to corroborate the earlier stories.
