I'm exhausted! I just walked six blocks home from school! I know the feeling. I just power-walked three miles! You know you're out of shape when your grandmother makes you feel old.
I remember when I & my husband were in our 20’s, and my parents were around 70. We poured concrete for a patio, when it was over 100°F. My dad made us all look like wimps.
Of course, now that I’m older, the doctors have diagnosed some genetic conditions that explain why I’ve always had trouble doing vigorous exercise. I never could keep up with my dad. The first time I realized he was getting old, he died about a month later.
So he had to walk six blocks. Big deal. I did that when I was in elementary school. Had to take the public bus to junior high as it was way too far. Same for high school but then I started walking to high school in my junior year and through senior year, except in bad weather conditions.

david_42: Like the “scout’s pace” from the old Baden Powell days; one hundred paces running, one hundred walking, alternate the distance.
