Transcript:
Goat: What are you doing, Rat? Rat: Rorschach tests. Goat: Oh, where you show ink blots to people and ask them what they see? Rat: Yes. Now shut up. Okay, Pig, what do you see? Pig: I guess I just see failure. Like something that has gone terribly wrong. Show zebra. Zebra: i don't know... It just makes me sad. What does Goat see? Goat: I see something more pathetic than sad. Show Stephan. Pig: I wonder what he saw.

Stephan is a real pity-party animal.

Looks like Zebra is back to normal.

Now this is an instant classic! Cartoon-Boy gets put down not once, not twice, but three times, by three of his most sympathetic characters, and he acts out on the instigator, Rat! Absolutely perfect humor. And yet, so true, too.

Himself smackin’ down Rat!

’Bout time Rat got smacked……

I agree with Goat. It’s almost too pathetic to be funny. Almost.

He saw his shadow, guess that means six more weeks of droll humor.

we must learn to see ourselves, as others see us, and be grateful or humble…whatever

There’s a reason why people like PBS so much. Actually, hundreds of reasons.Today’s strip? I agree with c.davies above: brilliant!

I love how rat tells goat to shut up. Rat is so impatient. And goat is such a spring of knowledge—being able to describe exactly what the Rorschach test was.

The more I read this one, the more I like it. I kind of pity Pastis, too, but then, that’s the whole point, I’d say.

@SizeofaPea:why are you here, day after day reading it? I think the sheer number of comments daily only proves that Stephan’s work isn’t sad, pathetic or a failure.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That’s the whole point of this ‘pseudo-derision’ crowd. He makes us moan, he makes us groan and makes a circus ride of our minds with his daily output (tut-tut, don’t say it !) and we commenters are just going along for the ride.

Sharper than a serpent’s tooth is the ingratitude of a toon

Michael Jackson’s “Main in the Mirror”. Do you think, Stephan, it might be time to change? Great strip—very Zen.
Number Three about 10 years ago
I think Stephan sees how much he regrets creating Rat.

Is that the actual ink-blot, or is it just Stephan’s drawing of what he thought the ink-blot looked like? Does the cartoonist/avatar actually have complete control over what happens in the PBS universe? (I’m using “avatar” in the sense that predates computer chat rooms.)
