Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for October 31, 2014
Transcript:
Calvin: "It was all a misunderstanding! An innocent mistake! Let me explain!" Mom: "Calvin, listen closely. Locking Rosalyn out of the house wasn't just MEAN, it was DANGEROUS. If you'd hurt yourself or if there was a fire, she wouldn't have been able to help you" Mom: "You go apologize to Rosalyn right now" Calvin: "I-I'm sorry, Rosalyn" Dad: "And we're sorry too. I PROMISE you Calvin will behave himself next time" Rosalyn: "An extra five would help there BE a next time"

Give her whatever she asks if you want to go out again.

Poor parents. A kid who behaves recklessly and an extortionist babysitter.

Calvin really came down from his high flying hijinks this time…I wonder if Rosalyn will really baby-sit him the next time?! ;)

Poor Dad…She can still negotiate a 10 or a 20.
pelican47 about 10 years ago
Give her Calvin’s allowance for the next two months.

Calvin’s parents should spend more time instilling discipline. There is a reason Rosalyn is the only one who will watch over Calvin. His reputation is quite widespread.
Agency or not, if your kids were like Calvin word would have gotten around and you probably would have experienced some difficulty in finding sitters.KR about 10 years ago
She didn’t even baby sit him, so she really shouldn’t be paid at all…
Smaus about 10 years ago

It just occurred to me that Watterson never did Halloween in the Calvin and Hobbes.

Well, I don’t see Hobbes givin’ any stinkin’ apology…
lazydude41 about 10 years ago
Calvin should have the livin’ tar beat out of him, but of course, we don’t do that any more. Instead we try to reason with kids who are not capable of thinking about consequences based onreason.

Roslyn needs to go, or needs to actually babysit. A sitter whose idea of "sitting’ is to send the child to bed at 6:30 so she can spend the entire evening on the phone with her bf is about the worst excuse for a sitter I can imagine.

I like the way when she’s looking furious, Calvin is yelling and fighting against her. Then as her face gets softer, Calvin stops fighting her, and starts feeling more and more guilty about what he’s done instead. That’s what discipline should be all about: getting kids to understand that they’ve done something wrong and shouldn’t do it again (instead of just seeing his parents’ problem with anger management).

Calvin and his mom have matching outfits today. They are both covered with dots. But that’s about all that they have in common at the moment.

Good for Roz! I would have been the sitter who fervently apologized for having let their kid get one over on me. Ouch.

It’s not often you see Calvin look genuinely guilty for his crimes.
sunchaunzo about 10 years ago
Look on the bright side, Roslyn. Think about how this will beef up your resume!!

One of dad’s fingers looks longer than the rest in this strip.

Calvin’s parents have already worked their way thru all of the babysitters in town.

Wonder how much they’d have to offer her if this were a current strip!

Maykitten collages??
markzwaan about 10 years ago
Hmm, I guess American culture is still a mystery to me. In our country you might find a ‘local collage’ hanging on the wall of a babysitter agency. But we would not let an art installation operate it. But hey, different cultures…

OMG. There are some people who think Calvin should be “disciplined” and others who give advise about babysitters !I think they believe that’s Fox News or something.
lindz.coop Premium Member about 10 years ago
Absolutely — and maybe she should be apologizing for sending him to bed as soon as the parents drove away.
Druarc about 10 years ago
An extra $5 is so little these days.
