Lacey Davenport: Ms. Caucus, what a delight to hear from you! Are you here in Washington? Joanie: Um... yes, I am, Mrs. Davenport, just got int, so I thought, heck, why not give my Congresswoman a call, you know, to show there were no hard feelings about last fall. In fact, both Ginny and I feel it was rather a privilege to run against you. It was a clean race, right? And free of acrimony! And... uh... well fought by both sides, don't you think? Lacey Davenport: Yes, I guess it was, dear. Joanie: Lacey, I need a job. Lacey Davenport: So did I, dear. But come by anyway.

Is that the only sweater Joanie has? And, why is she wearing it in June?

It’s who you know in Washington that gets you the job.

A typewriter. Its what you used when you had lots of white out.

Back in the day, we used to discus Joanie the same way soap opera fans did; she was like a real friend to us.

The typewriter and all the great housekeeping are courtesy of Rick. Did we skip over the “tuna salad sandwich found under the couch after weeks away” strip?Sometime in the first couple of years of their association, Lacey tactfully nudges Joanie into heading out on a little hairstyle and wardrobe makeover. There’s a classic Sunday strip where Rick doesn’t recognize the new Joanie when he answers the door.

No, it’s a, for the time, state of the art IBM electric typewriter (with interchangeable font ball).
Had one in my office in the Army, looked about like that but MINE was 10 years newer and had the auto-correct feature up like 127 characters.
(meaning when you hit backspace it thwacked it with whiteout, then you have to whiteout the carbons by hand).

Lacey took care of Joanie’s fashion needs.

Are you referring to the egg salad sandwich?

No, that’s a tie! ;-)

Just noticing a few things – the tie, the typewriter. Joanie wearing sandals and barefeet. And of course, how she twists herself into that knot as she asks the hard question.love that twisted knot at the end.
