Frazz by Jef Mallett for September 12, 2014
Transcript:
SCHOOL BUS LOADING Mrs. Olsen: You realize too much running is bad for you, Frazz. Caulfield: Interesting that she doesn't feel the same way about spelling tests. Frazz: If you're going to be full of baloney, you'd think you should be consistently full of baloney.

What about if you’re going to be filled with olive loaf….?

It’s a matter of diet. Some runners think they can eat what they want.

I think she’s talking more about the joint damage and possibility of slip-and-fall (-sometimes-in-front-of-cars) on dangerous terrain (or in bad weather) rather than about overexertion. Failure to recognize warning signs can happen with anything; consider Arthur Ashe, whose excellent physical conditioning as a #1-ranked tennis player masked his first heart attack.

I was thinking more the brain damage that comes from breathing deeply of carbon monoxide to get that “runner’s high.” That is why so many runners prefer to do it in the road, right next to the traffic, when there’s a multi-purpose running/biking path a mere twenty feet away, right?

She knows the true power of running: when you truly need to. Aquick dash to save a life is more awesome than marathons every week.

Running gives you warts on your feet, too. Far worse than touching a toad. Also, women should never run as it damages their reproductive organs and makes them sterile.

if man were intended to run, god would not have made couches.

Can’t say I always do it….But everybody should at least take a series of brisk half hour walks, at least 4 or 5 weekly, or weakly, if that’s what it takes…. whatever… It don’t matter…You really should do it…It keeps you lose and keeps the blood flowing….Bringing in oxygen and nutrients to the cells in your body…Taking away the cell waste and toxins….And the heart pumping….

Too much of anything is bad for you. The question is what is too much. And what Frazz runs certainly isn’t too much for the shape he is in and the years of training he’s put in to get where he is.
