Back when I was in school, you didn’t dare let on to the bigger boys that you liked girls, or you’d be taunted to death! And, a couple years later, they were the ones chasing them!(Guess they wanted them all for themselves!)
I do think that Rebel Strike’s question was more along the lines of “If Mike was only interested in Deanna, then how come he went out with Martha and then Rhetta for so many years?”
Actually, the surname “MacRae” is not Irish, it is Scottish. In the strip’s epilogue, it was revealed that Martha had married an unnamed man then had twin girls. Later, after divorcing, she took a job near Michael’s workplace and the two got reacquainted. Michael took advantage of his writing career to write a series of alternate history novels in which how his life would have turned out had he married Martha and what kind of children he would have fathered with her.(Although I do wonder if Deanna knew about these books and if she approved of such writing, as it may have given Michael ideas).

Not to worry Michael maybe the sexy gym teacher will go to the Halloween party. He will strip down to his briefs and flex.
