Baldo by Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos for March 28, 2010
Transcript:
Dad: Baldo, have you finished your homework? Baldo: Dad, this stuff's hard! I can read for hours and still not understand it! Baldo: It's not fair! How come school is easy for Gracie? It's getting really annoying! Dad: Well, Baldo, not everyone is the same. Some of us are born with a natural curosity that comes to life in even the humblest of classrooms... Dad: But some of us need to work harder and put in extra effort to focus on what will benefit us over the long run. As a wise man once said... Baldo: Uh, sorry... did you say something?

Joe is right. It’s time for Dad to take action and remove the TV, the cell phone and the video games. Baldo is still a kid, albeit a big one, and Sergio, as a parent, has the unenviable task of keeping him on the tracks to a decent future.

Reminds me of my daughter who would spend at least 3 hours a night on homework and get a C average; my son might “look” at some homework during breakfast and get A’s!

Baldo didn’t listen carefully what Papi talked about the education while Baldo still kept playing the stupid game. Maybe Baldo doesn’t know how to study real hard enough. Well, if he doesn’t study hard enough, he will learn NADA! (Nothing!)

Turn off the game, Baldo! Hit restart for your ears and brain and listen to Papi.

Some students read a text because they want to learn – they are curious or they find the material interesting.
Some students look at words on a page because “that is what the teacher they had to do.”
