Over a bowl of Sparkle, Annie tells her tale of troubleA boat ride with the Butcher interrupted by a bubbleThat sent her back to way back when the Nazis had invadedUndertaking abominations, hatred permeatedAcross multiple continents prisoners killed or shippedTo the Concentration Camps, stout hearts were ill equippedFor vile evil carried out by those anti-SemiticAxel knew it was present-day, yet never would admit it.Insisted she should trust headlines of Simmons Corners NewsAnnie knew to bide her time, play dumb and pay her dues.Elsewhere, Fritz Ann lays it out for Kenyon who must goTo secured location of which Axel does not know.Punjab and Asp recall good times defeating Axel’s menProtecting those at Kenyon’s farm they kick tail once again. The melee raises a rumpus, Axel’s thugs soon take a restProtecting Annie from danger, Asp and Punjab are the best.Axel in his arrogance asks Tracy to lend a handHis “repair crew” has gone missing, vanished from the land.Tracy happy to help out, drives straight to Silo’s farmDelivers him up to Warbucks and those whom he meant harm.Axel now in a tight spot, threat ahead, woe to the rearAll his plans have crumbled, there is no escape from here.
Let me get this straight. Axel sends crew to remove problem, crew never returns, Axel goes along with Officer Tracy to investigate rather than send someone else into a potentially dangerous situation. I’ll wait to see what unfolds this week before commenting further.
It seems that Axel’s plan for the Kenyon farm has gone awry, and after years of chasing Axel, Annie and her crew finally have him cornered. Faking his own death didn’t work, at least not permanently. Annie says, “Grrr!” Sandy says, “Grrr!” Axel thinks, “Uh-oh, I wasn’t expecting this.”
So, Tracy has found the answer to all Axel’s questions. At some point, we need to get the answers that Axel knows to answer our questions, Tracy’s questions, Annie’s questions, etc. At least Axel hasn’t escaped (so far, anyway).
A nice climax for “Mr. Axel’s” plans. Grrr, shared by Annie (!) and Sandy, while Daddy confronts the dullard-villain and the Asp and Punjab stand by to carry out whatever needs to be done. Tracy behind him precludes fleeing; Axel is done. Now it will be time to extract some information from him; who gets to have that fun? The Asp, with his blades? Punjab, with his mystic powers? Or someone even more unfriendly?
PQ, how you can produce such a poetic piece out of zero prep time still amazes me! The best part is that for some of us that may have missed bits and pieces of the storyline, you do an excellent job of wrapping it up with a red ribbon for them on Sunday! Bravo!
Re: Crimestoppers Textbook Back in the 70’s, it was recommended that we etch our social security numbers onto TV’s, musical instruments, etc. so that we could get them back if they were stolen. These days, that would be really dumb.
The criminal undone in large part due to his arrogance is classic Gould. Axel assumed Tracy was in thrall to Belinda and would do his bidding. It never occurred to Axel that things might not go his way. Tracy turned the tables on him. Warbucks, Annie and Sandy don’t make for a very welcoming welcome committee. Asp and Punjab: Clean-up in the Silo kitchen! Axel had a bad idea that he was in charge. Wrong-headed thinking may be expressed freely, yet saying it doesn’t make it so. This fellow is a good example:
Axel’s fake time warp has been a good way to honor the setting of classic Annie, while mixing things up stylistically. We got a double-feature at the picture show, and the popcorn tasted much better than what they serve up at Silver Nitrate’s Lyric Theater. .Thanks to Gweedo, Willy007, JPuzzleWhiz, Morrow, davidf42, Sydney Phillips and Neil Wick for the kind words. Very much appreciated.
Not an Annie fan here, so once again, I am totally lost in this storyline..More than once, it has been intimated that Axel is supposed to be dead. Yet, he’s not..Neil Wick, I think, said that he had “faked” his death. If so, then too bad..I was thinking of an interesting – and now, clearly, an alternative – ending to this story..Perhaps there was a “time travel” aspect to the story, affecting Axel and select others in Simmons Corners: Axel taken before his actual death, along with a handful of others, now completely out of their time and element..And perhaps a reformed Axel at work trying to get them all home…
We may not ever know all the details of this very complicated plot. I’m thinking Axel might escape and take some of the secrets with him. That would leave us with a lot of loose ends that would slowly be explained in a revived Little Orphan Annie strip.

And WHO is the guy in the last panel with the hat? Seems dressed differently than the Asp, and has appeared in the background several times!

What’s on the mailbox – SILO – is that not connected to Jerry Dumas’ comic strip “Sam and Silo” (originally in the 1960’s “Sam’s Strip”)?

Over a bowl of Sparkle, Annie tells her tale of trouble
A boat ride with the Butcher interrupted by a bubble
That sent her back to way back when the Nazis had invaded
Undertaking abominations, hatred permeated
Across multiple continents prisoners killed or shipped
To the Concentration Camps, stout hearts were ill equipped
For vile evil carried out by those anti-Semitic
Axel knew it was present-day, yet never would admit it.
Insisted she should trust headlines of Simmons Corners News
Annie knew to bide her time, play dumb and pay her dues.
Elsewhere, Fritz Ann lays it out for Kenyon who must go
To secured location of which Axel does not know.
Punjab and Asp recall good times defeating Axel’s men
Protecting those at Kenyon’s farm they kick tail once again.
The melee raises a rumpus, Axel’s thugs soon take a rest
Protecting Annie from danger, Asp and Punjab are the best.
Axel in his arrogance asks Tracy to lend a hand
His “repair crew” has gone missing, vanished from the land.
Tracy happy to help out, drives straight to Silo’s farm
Delivers him up to Warbucks and those whom he meant harm.
Axel now in a tight spot, threat ahead, woe to the rear
All his plans have crumbled, there is no escape from here.
