Cathy: The striped tank doesn't work with the tulip skirt. The smocked blouse doesn't work with the denim leggings. The polka dot tube top doesn't work with the urban jungle safari pants. Everything looks like it COULD work somewhere... ...but NOTHING'S WORKING WITH ANYTHING! Caption: The look that defines the season: Unemployed Clothing.

Would like to search for an older Cathy comic strip I saw over 20 years ago. It was when Cathy got her first apartment and her parents are at her front door with groceries in hand saying we Know she isn’t eating right!
I raised 5 kids and they all tease me about this favorite family cartoon. I would like to frame it to keep in my home. I admit it, I was that mom in that cartoon - a real helicopter mom, hovering around the kids just certain they wouldn’t eat right! Thanks much! I appreicate anything you can do to help me locate this cartoon clip. Think it was in the early to mid 1990’s.

Well, don’t just leave it in the dressing room. Even if it doesn’t work, still treat it with respect…
Good luck, Usaussie45. Not sure where to get that strip. I’ll try and poke around.

At least hang them up on their hangers! Personally, I think the striped tank would work with the urban jungle pants..
Usaussie, you might try going to your local library and see if they have any Cathy books and search through them. Or if the local paper carries the strip, look on the microfilm. Good luck!

She may not be eating right, but she’s clearly eating.

Cathy stop buying “17” magazine stuff! You don’t need to look like the girl next door. How about looking classy? Girl next door doesn’t eat if she is gonna wear strips, short skirts, leggings and polka dots! Just cause it is “fashionable” doesn’t make it classy or attractive.

I think that Cathy’s friends (or at least her cartoonist and/or agent) need to contact Clinton and Stacey of “What Not to Wear.” How cool would it be to have them create a wardrobe makeover for Cathy? And think of it - it would make fun television AND a fun arc for the strip!

Coreyjan has a good idea. I’d like to see it done.

Yes, she IS clearly eating!
She shops in the Jr.’s department when she belongs in the Plus SIze department. It’s the only thing that can explain why everything she tries on is ridiculously way too small, and completely age inappropriate. Jr’s large is still smaller than Plus’s XXX Small.
What’s more disturbing is when I see real life teenagers wearing outfit number 1 out in the daytime, and they’re built like Cathy is.

My personal favorite is “plumbers bum” with brand name readable thong. I especially admired it on a waitress who served my dinner.
