why does Andy look a ‘gift horse’ in the mouth? I love home grown vegetables - they taste much better than those sold in supermarkets.

Andy sure comes across as a whinging Pom!!

The reason why some people behave this way in real life is because they don’t want to feel obligated to return the occasional good deed, they act so ungrateful as to make sure no one will attempt to do a good deed for them again.

If I were Andy, I would also say Chalkie’s potatoes wouldn’t make good chips either to go with some fish.

Leave it Andy to let his wife and his friends to do the “hard work.”

What are you complaining about Andy? You know Flo will get stuck cleaning and baking them for you.

Chalkie, don’t feel bad. Just ask Andy down the pub for a few rounds and he’ll forgive you. At heart Andy’s a big guy.

At first I thought it was Chalkie down playing the value of his gift (ala japonaise). Andy is really quite a stickler for quality.

Good for you Andy! Chalkie has obviously picked out the potatoes that he has deemed unfit for his own consumption and is trying to pass them on to Andy and Flo as though he is doing them a favor. Obviously this kind of behavior has been going on for years and Andy’s near limitless patience has finally run out. The neighborhood owes you for this one Andy.

Andy, you are an idiot! You can wash and give the potatoes to Flo so she will cook and make mashed potato for you. You should thank Charlie for nice generosity. But more likely, you are such a rudeness!

Andy should be outraged that his “good neighbor” would cull the best of his crop for himself, his family, and his friends, and then drops off the rejects at his doorstep, looking for a pat on the back! Obviously he does not think of Andy as a “true” friend.

Perhaps it was not necessary that they be peeled, but how difficult is it to give them a quick washing?

Disappointing, very disappointing! And after all that Andy has done for him over the years. What a slap in the face! Completely unacceptable!

Andy instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth and bad mouthing the generous gift of yum home grown potatoes no matter what size be happy. I know if he had brought you some beer instead he would be your best friend. Home grown potatoes would taste very good. Joe-Allen you are so right. Also could put small home grown potatoes as a salad, stew, soup, casserole, etc.

Andy’s a tragic hero. Now he’s going to feel bad when he tells Flo to wash and peel those small, knobbly potatoes.
