I’ve always wondered why we celebrated a day for someone who got lost. My boss is Italian, though, so we have some lively debates about this almost every year. Not this year, tho, as school is in session, and since the stock market is open, we will be open. I only wish our garage was open; my husband and I have to wait ’til Tuesday to get our truck back!
At the time of Columbus’ voyage, there were disputes about the size of the Earth. Columbus chose one of the smaller sizes (probably assuming that he couldn’t provision enough supplies to make it if the larger size was correct.).He was really lucky there was a continent in between or his crew would’ve starved to death on the open seas..His mistake is (sort of) understandable because the Americas are right about where this (undersized) estimate of the Earth’s size said India should be..He was quite definitely wrong, but his mistake was understandable.
Nothing like having a holiday for someone who never stepped foot in the (now) United States! The bad side of me likes to say he couldn’t discover water if he fell out of his boat!
Who’s this Christopher Columbus fellow? Didn’t he play a minister in Mash?.No, wait! That was William Columbus, I think; or, was it Chris Williams?.i’m confused…
Several waves of asians discovered America, and never left. Archimedes calculated circumference of Earth as 30,000 miles, only 20% error, Columbus should have used his number and realized he wasn’t in the Orient.

He was also a brutal, genocidal, tyrannical conqueror.
