Yet Miriam and Flossie still can’t work up any interest. Maybe if Bob made any sense with his little stories. This one in particular concerns a one-footed super hero named Checked Pants Guy. He wears a top hat and doubles as a Circus owner in the Day, and Drives a ’82 Chevy at night, looking for Damsels in Distress.
Bob’s story…The Pretender was very adept. So adept in fact that one day he pretended to be a Circus. First he appeared as Léopold, the Ring Master, and introduces the first act. Ducking behind a back drop he ditches his top hat and reappears as wild animal tamer Randolph Scotty, complete with safari hat and whip. Randolph places a ball in the center ring and cracks his whip. The crowd gasps as an extremely large, ferocious lion leaps and balances atop the ball. The lion circumnavigates the ring on the ball. The crowd’s attention is so focused on the lion that they fail to notice the disappearance of Randolph. The lion rolls about the ring raising a cloud of dust. Another crack of the whip and the crowd is able to catch glimpses of Randolph, then the lion, then Randolph. A boot flies from the ring. When the dust settles there is no trace of the lion, Randolph, or even the ring master, only the one boot. Subsequence searches of the big top reveal nothing although some did comment that the tent had a strange resemblance to a sock.Miriam is not impressed, Flossie, however, is intrigued wondering “where’s the big kitty?”
But did you know that Miriam used to be impressed? She even listened avidly, for a while…
But 20 years have come and gone, and the script has remained a one man show.Emphasis on Man.
She’s tried longing gazes, deep sighs…even dressing up in a long golden gown she found at Aunt Hattie’s Thrift and Auto Parts…and about 6 years ago, she made gossamer wings out of coathangers and all her old stockings.
I know because she came to me to get a long blonde hairpiece….not an expensive human hair wig… but that shiny synthetic stuff that looks so…
Oh…. but I digress.
Anyway, did Bob ever write a part for her?An innocent maiden in danger, a beautiful woodland sprite …A fairy princess…even a wicked queen…well, yeah, he did write about a wicked queen once…. with long black hair and red fingernails. but he played her himself.
If he was going to remain oblivious to her heartfelt thespian desires…well….
Like LadyKat, I love fresh fruit with Greek yogurt (Voskos plain, tho’ – no honey). I had some yesterday and would like it again today. A banana, 4 or 5 strawberries and a slice or 2 of pineapple, and add one of my breakfast bars and a slice of cracked wheat toast. Oh, and a mug of almond milk heated and frothed with a heaping spoon of organic cocoa and 9 drops of Stevia.
it seams tath MiRiam is runnin low on tenshun span…but she nose that this act is ovur soon an thens tyme fer…“iNner MissioN”….popcorn ballz an diEt sPrite…(did ah menshun a nice peace ov Yak jerKey fer fLossy???)
