Should’ve been a dog.Nate would be like ‘yay’.But then he’ll think it’s Mrs. Godfrey’s and not like it.

I learned just yesterday that (at least some) Petsmarts have party rooms where the guests get to meet the critters. A big hit with the 4-year-olds.

Nate gets to be the first to get up close and personal with the mascot when it is time to clean the cage.

The natural habitat of a gerbil is the stomach of foxes, owls and other predators.

Ahhhhh, the G-Lady was just missin’ it while she’s away at work….this just gives the big ’ol ham an excuse to have it there right on her desk where she can always see it….and then take it home after school.

Looks like some foreshadowing in panel 3. I don’t think the poor guy will be cooped up much longer.

Prediction: The students will be allowed to take the gerbil home on weekends and when Nate gets his turn he either loses it and/or Spitzy eats it.

Where do people get the idea about class pets? There was never a class pet when I went to school nor any when my kids were in school.
