Dad: "Hey, remember our very first Christmas tree? The tree guy let us have it for 75 cents because it was half-dead" Dad: "On the way home, we bought a string of lights and a few ornaments at a thrift store" Dad: "The whole thing cost us about a buck- fifty, but we loved that little tree..." Mom: "Honey, if you're upset that I spent $37 on this ornament, just say so"

Now it’s getting me to wonder: how much did Charlie Brown’s Christmas twig cost?
JohnRPelt almost 10 years ago
My family has one of those trees where, other than the lights, nothing matches…. it’s a brouhaha of random ornaments we (and by that, I mean my mom) have bought over the years, usually from souvenir places. Nothing matches at all. My parents insist it gives the tree character, but we all know what that means…

News Flash: Adult married couples don’t agree on everything all the time. That doesn’t mean they resent each other so much that they need to get a divorce. -How do you know that Frank would get depressed after a divorce? Maybe he’d end up dating Mrs. Berger.-And how do you know that Nancy would date anyone, let alone some guy the same age as her kid. For a lot of older women, a divorce gives them a chance to do things other than be in a relationship, like maybe go to college or have a career. That is, if you’re interested in realistic stories. If you just want to daydream about ‘cougars’, then of course Nancy would end up with Quill (isn’t that what you’re suggesting?)-Not all of us see a ‘continued resentment [in] Sunday strips that Nancy has for Frank’-And the candy canes that Frank is putting on the tree are not pink or yellow…

How lucky for you that you don’t live in Florida, where Duke Energy or FPL would be rejoicing every time you threw the switch…

Yours would be a great house to visit during holidays!

Re some of your messages from yesterday, about how US residents have such a ‘know it all attitude’ about helping people elsewhere: USA Today has reported that during the Thanksgiving holidays when many students are enjoying time off, Tomik Vertanous, a junior at University of Southern California, is organizing mass shipments of medical supplies from the US to the homeland of his ancestors, Armenia.-Vertanous is studying healthcare administration and founded a nonprofit called Hyer United, which is all college students. They ship med supplies to rural Armenian villages that are far from hospitals, and where med supplies are either rare or not available. The supplies have been used to help keep injured people alive during the long trip to a hospital.-So idealism isn’t just a bunch of hooey…

does he celebrate 5 de Mayo and Valentine’s day?

Even though Thanksgiving is over, It is still too early for the tree IMO. I like the old tradition, putting the tree up on Christmas Eve as a family project, leaving it up for the twelve days of Christmas, and then taking it down. Obviously, I am now in a minority….

Don’t forget the dreamy expression Nancy had after being rescued by Dirk when the bookcase fell over and trapped her. her. I wondered whether they might have an affair, but so far nothing has happened, and Dirk seems to have grown up.

I’m not condoning the divorce road some of you are taking them on, but I had a good laugh when I thought of Nancy dating TJ ! More fun than the thought of Frank dating Gunthie’s Mom.

She’s probably right, but it might have been who he was with.

why need a tree or decorating at all? put up a coat rack, put some stuff that has sentimental value on it. done. no more $$$ ornaments, watering the #$% tree, electrical, fire hazard, or a !#$% star. plus, you can use all year round without taking down, it is still a coat rack.

Frank and Nancy don’t have to get a divorce for Nancy to go back to college and get a degree. Nancy should take some courses at the local community college. She could take the same class as LuAnn!

Whats with D – I – V – O – R – C – E ? Frank brought up the rising cost of living, nothing to do with parting ways!
maverick1usa almost 10 years ago
The cost of living has soared & Social Security hasn’t! $37.00 is an outrageous price for an ornament but I’m sure they have some with that price tag. I think the cost of a tree & decorations are steep today but they don’t phase my son or his family. The important thing is to keep Christ in Christmas!

Just wondering if we’ll see anything of Luann in 2015. Or will Greg Evans change the name of the strip to “Luann’s Friends and Family”?

Frank cheers BEFORE Linus fixes Charlie Brown’s little pathetic tree. Then he’s all, “BOOOO!” after it’s finally pretty!

The tree topper in panel three is an angel, not a star. We usually start with the lights, the topper, then the plainer bulbs, then the various ornaments. The candy canes and tinsel are last. They seem to be just starting to add the various ornaments, so it may not be so boring when they are done.
If that ornament she is holding is crystal, she got a good deal. I have a crystal angel about that size that cost over $100.00. It was a gift from 5 friends who pooled $20. each, and the girl that made the purchase added to that in order to get the one she wanted for me. I do not hang it on the tree, it is safely displayed in the built-in china cabinet year round.
As to our tree, we have very few plain bulbs, and most of them are decorated with paint and sparkle designs, so not really plain either. There are lots of ornaments, many hand made, many were gifts from customers and friends, and since we retired and did some traveling, many are souvenirs . More than we need at any one time, so the tree is different every year and always interesting and unique. (We don’t use tinsel anymore since we added cats and dogs to the family.)
I know, more than you wanted to know, but thanks for reading anyway.

I really don’t understand why some people want to wait till the last minute to put up a tree and then take it down as soon as they can. It takes a lot of work and effort to decorate for Christmas, why not enjoy it as long as you can? After all, you have a lot of decorations in your house all year and think nothing of it. Do you want to redecorate your whole house every month?
I feel the same way about the music, (or did when I could still hear it.) You listen to the same songs over and over on the radio, or your “play list” all year, but Christmas music has to have a limit. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Happy early birthday to your daughter! Does she get to have her very own tree? One year, when my son was about four, we cut the top off of the tree we were having that year because it was too tall. He decided that he wanted his very own tree. So, we gave him the top, nailed it to a couple of boards and put it in the dining room. Santa left his toys under it and not under the living room tree. We did that for quite a number of years! ;)
