Had to eat it fast in order to get it down.

I wanna have dinner at the Pickles house !

Would it kill Opal to use a tray?

My son waits until I sit down before he starts and until I finish to leave the table.

If I wait for my wife to show up, my food will have cooled off. Then she would have to wait until I microwaved mine. But she doesn’t mind cold food.

It’s a compliment, dear! And you don’t have to give him dessert.

It’s not that Earl eats fast, it just that Opal walks so damn slow.

We have a friend like Earl but we think he finishes fast when we go out to dinner so he has more time to talk!

At least wait until we’ve finished saying grace!

R-O-L-A-I-D-S.. For the indigestion that usually sets in when one gulps their food… It’s what’s for dessert!

After the way Opal treats him, I don’t blame him for not wanting to share a meal with her.

Who would want to eat with Opal and constantly be picked-on.Beside the sports page is waiting..

Those who bash Opal should realize that what goes around comes around. He treats her badly, so it’s no wonder he gets it back. She does feed him food he enjoys, tho, so I give her points for that.

my step grandfather and I used to have eating races. My grandmother would just roll her eyes. :-)

If you want him to sit at the table longer, you need to provide a bigger bowl than that.

Hey Opal..hurry up..Lawrence Welk is on!

Sme thing here, for 50+ years! Hubs was one of ten kids and mealtime was NOT a social event. He’s usually gone before I get to the table. No compliments to the chef, either. If I;m lucky, I get, “You can make this again.” Oh, thanks.

Spend some prandial time with your wife, Earl. And would it kill you to put the bowl in the sink?!

My mother had a wall plaque in the kitchen:

IF IT TAKES ME TWO HOURS TO COOK IT, YOU DAMN WELL BETTER TAKE MORE THAN TWO MINUTES TO EAT IT!

Dad and I took it as a serious warning.

My mother would make a batch of cookies and then when they were gone in minutes, she’d wail “Why do I even bother?”

Maybe Earl learned to eat in the military.

It’s rude.

My father doesn’t eat his food, he inhales it. Gone in 15 minutes.

For the most part, what I see is Opal being deliberately mean, and Earl reacting to it. Sure he does some stuff that isn’t nice, but if you look back, you will see it is mostly in reaction to something she has done to him. For instance, the incident with him scouring the neighborhood and shouting for Roscoe while in his pajamas while the dog was sitting in the house was just plain meanness on Opal’s part, and she was letting her grandson know it was ok to be that mean.
