All heart. Limitless compassion. And all for a measly $150 deduction. I wonder if the IRS computer groans audibly when it processes their return?I don’t think anyone will take a mattress at all these days. Health reasons. Would you want to sleep on a mattress they “slept” on? If you think we went nuts over the guy with Ebola in Dallas, think about this.
I’m kinda squeemish about sleeping on mattresses in Motels, I can’t imagine buying one at a thrift store.I understand Goodwill uses a big part of their budget just in getting rid of things they can’t use. People are clueless, cat peed on the couch: give it to goodwill, Grandma died in her bed: Goodwill, Stomach flue ruined the throw rug: Goodwill.I once volunteered at The Assistance League Thrift shop. The amount of dirty clothes, especially baby clothes we had to sort was awful!
Many people don’t know that Goodwill is a business – not a charity. CEO and owner Mark Curran profits $2.3 million a year. Goodwill is a very catchy name for his business. You donate to his business and then he sells the items for PROFIT. He pays nothing for his products and pays his workers minimum wage!
Department of Corrections and Clarification I was using GoodWill as an example I’m well aware of their deplorable business practices. When donating we give to Paws and Claws, our Humane Society thrift shop.
What in the world would anyone do with a mattress with 2 giant sink holes in it. I’ll bet the mattress store cringes when they shop for a new one and lay on it and it test it..Don’t forget, a few months ago we learned the Penny’s really do not believe in all those unhealthy toiletry chemicals like deodorant. How would you like to visit the mattress store just after they left in July or August?
Especially now that I’m moving, I give any clothes that are too big for me (or out of my current style), but I’ll trash any undies or such that are actually worn or anything I would not consider buying at a yard sale. I may donate m current mattress (just to get rid of it) but only because I want larger than double.

Taxing agencies do whatever it takes to confiscate your next dollar. May as well do whatever it takes to hold on to it.
We can save the planet and elevate its people better than they can.

2old. The things you mention are stuff that they were too lazy to take to the dump. Goodwill was just closer.

Very thoughtful of them to donate a Farmer’s Almanac from the 1980s!
