Uh Oh, That is what my husband had me do, hold the ladder for him. Ladder tipped over and I went down the stairs, on my back. with the ladder on top of, me. Broke my front teeth,. and fractured my back. Now I give ladders a wide berth. Five years ago. Funny, I never once dreamed of falling tho.

Yup, Burl, that’s right. You are going up the career ladder like a rocket and there is always someone there to protect and help you. Let’s see, how old are you now, 50ish? Working for Crustwood U-Stor-It for 30 years, right? Two promotions. First job was porter and sweeper right out of high school. Joy’s dad got you that job, didn’t he? Second was Assistant Manager when you got married. Third was Manager when Patty was born and they couldn’t find anyone willing to take the job. The story of your life and career are case histories at the Executive MBA program at both Wharton and Harvard.

    2Old! That sounds horrible!

Is your back OK now?And was your husband hurt then, as well?5 years isn’t that long ago, in terms of healing from that sort of injury.

    And Mikie… yeah… I was thinking about that too…

How could Burl possibly have a dream that signifies career failure, when his career has been such a brilliant success.

….long as there’s a gin-yu-wine sy-kyah-triss in the house: when I fall in dreams, I go down reeeeeeeeaaaall sloooooooooooooowwwwwww……intriguing, always. Don’t fall much in real life (so far), so it’s hard to make a judgement on just what’s up with the dreams…..never get hurt from the “in dreams” falls, either. Simply amazing!!

What about dreams where you are at the all you can eat salad bar and find the last boiled egg deep in yesterdays spinach where the night crew missed it. Or the one where the fast food joint manage comps your meal after you point out the hair in your chili cheese burger -——- after you scratched your head with your straw.

Very bad accident, indeed! I never have bad dreams; all mine are very lovely.

No one mentioned that Burl’s ladder has cement on the legs and that Julie also had him leave a rake in a dangerous condition.

So, I guess Burl’s not on the career fast track.

The thing I like most about this strip is that it makes me envision a therapy session with the Pennys, the least self-aware people on the planet. What a hopeless task that would be for the therapist.
