All he has to do is find a magical fruit from a magical tree and bring someone he loves back from the dead… Hmm, I think he’s going to have to kill Sarah first…
I would think becoming a mutant was a major upset in itself. And Piotr is probably more concerned at what damage a raving non-reptile mutant could do to the colony.
Well lets see…. I’m venturing a wild guess that “Schism Syndrome” or SD is a state where the conscious and subconscious minds cannot rationally accept the duality of having a human mind and and animal body with species specific traits.“Am I man or Raccoon?”“To eat garbage or not eat garbage, that is the question..Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the wrath of the neighbors and the exterminator. Or to get rabies and bite one of the neighborhood kids…”Jim may decide he is no longer a man, and may decide to go gonzo on the colony. Since he is a Raccoon he may as well visit the nursery to gnaw on some lizard ova wholesale.Wally, is what I call a pretty close to being well balanced, though his cat like tenacity can get the better of him.Holly, well, other than her flight response there is nothing mouse like about her. She seems to have balanced out more human, but seems to have adapted to the advantages of her new form.Jim is having a little bit more than an existential crisis right now, in his fragile state anything is possible and worse is more probable.Maybe we’ll see on Friday where this is going.
Seems odd that the guy who wants to run off and help Jim with his schism syndrome is also the guy who Sarah was cheating on him with. Takes all kinds to make a post-apocalyptic world, I guess.
Has nothing to do with helping Jim and everything to do with protecting the colony, I’m sure. That said, I’d wondered where Aaron was going with this story line. It seemed odd that he’d purposefully introduce an element designed to break a person mentally, like being cheated on by someone you love can do. Now we know – he wants to explore the idea of this new (to us) schism syndrome.
Piotr is not a bad person. To his mind they were not cheating, multiple mates are the norm. His thinking about Jim’s adjustment shows he cares. He just has a species specific blind spot about sex.
I think its telling that Piotr called Jim by his name as opposed to calling him “the raccoon” which actually puts him ahead of Jim, Sarah and most of the members of his colony. He strikes me as a decent person who sometimes finds himself involved in doing things he may not entirely be comfortable with. I think the reason he’s going after Jim is threefold. Concern for another human being, knowing he’ll be held responsible for whatever trouble Jim will cause and concern that Jim could do some serious damage. As far as his relationship with Sarah. Piotr may not have known that Sarah and Jim were a couple. The fact that Sarah seemed so interested in him, probably drove any concerns about breaking up a couple out of his mind — he’s only human afterall.
If Jim gets captured by lizards, chances are he’ll get stuffed in a pet carrier just like before. And being at the mercy of cold-blooded lizards with superiority complexes won’t help his fragile psyche at all.…His best chance right now is to crawl into one of the wall crevices. Chic knows about the rude awakening Jim was in for, and Holly is doing better since her own emotional breakdown from Endtown.…Wally is prepared to fight his upcoming battle with Phil, so the best thing Holly can do right now is help Jim come to terms with everything that’s happened.
Just a reminder, Endtown needs your help to keep running! GoComics doesn’t pay their artists well, and Aaron needs the money. Please visit the action and bid on the artwork, or buy a print. Thanks!
The only thing that remains now is to see what kind of “splat” Jim will make on the scheme of things in the lizard colony and how it will effect the non-lizard immigrants.
I’m getting the urge to look into my cracked crystal ball and see the future plot of Endtown again—-I see Sarah staying behind in Lizardville, but Piotr going with whoever leaves. (But my track record of prediction isn’t good—-look at my comments during Flask’s Story for how I got it all wrong.)

“Schism syndrome”? Never heard of it. Is that some kind of a punk metal band or something? Are they as good as Taylor Swift?

You guys nailed that one.

To Piotr’s credit, his first concern was for Jim and he seems genuinely concerned.
There’s just a chance he and Sarah won’t end up as a couple. It’s possible Piotr will end up leaving with whoever else leaves.

We can readily thell the old timers to this strip and the newbies by our familiarity with the Schism Syndrome.

Oh okay, the whole schism thing…yeah, Aaron’s explored that a LITTLE before in the past. This is the first time he’s really put a name to it, though.
