Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for November 17, 2014
Transcript:
Duke: So, how's Eddie doing, kid? Riley: He's out for the season. As are both of the guys he clotheslined. Sir, I may be a little old-fashioned, but all these over-amped players bashing each other's brains out... can that be good for the game? Duke: It's the owners, son. They're blind to the problem without urine tests, what can I do? Riley: I don't know, sir, but right now you're putting a lot of guys in the hospital. Duke: Hey, look, choir boy... Riley: Sir, I've decided to go to the feds.

Of course it’s good for the game. That’s why people watch! This kid is probably now a neurologist, researching the affects of head trauma.

in reality, warning criminals in advance is unsafe

How amazing a coincidence that these old strips are running at the same time this happens: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/federal-drug-agents-launch-surprise-inspections-of-nfl-teams-following-games/2014/11/16/5545c84e-6da5-11e4-8808-afaa1e3a33ef_story.html

A lot of things really don’t seem so out of date here.

The big story in the NFL today seems to be the DEA raid of the visiting team locker rooms yesterday after the games.

It had been claimed in a lawsuit by the players’ union that team docs were giving pain pills inappropriately and asking the players to play on through their pain. Supposedly, this is what precipitated the DEA raid of visiting teams in the NFL yesterday. At the same time, we can see from today’s strip, written in 1978, that all of this has been very controversial for a long time. The NFL has become a huge mess between the drugs and the allegations of domestic abuse scandals, etc. It may be that the use of “roids” also spills over into the domestic abuse issue, stimulated by “roid rage.”

Still relevant, sad.

To be honest, I am not sure how many NFL players and DEA agents are Doonesbury fans, (but i guess there might be a few). Just don’t think very many are active players and DEA agents who would have been forewarned by the Doonesbury strip. If you are out there, feel free to let us know…

Wow, timely after 30 years, the Feds finally raided the NFL for drugs.

They probably always did. The news industry just didn’t report it…

Kid, if you want to ‘go to the Feds’, look in the luxury boxes. You’ll find most of Congress there on Sunday.-Let us know how receptive they are, ’k?
