It’s harder because we tend to retain many of our most primitive instincts. And primitive people, naturally, were not aware of all the people or life forms on the planet. As they did, we respond first and foremost to those in our vicinity- our village, our community. To interpret human attitudes and behavior solely through a 21st century lens gives a picture so distorted as to be utterly useless.
