A lot of comedy is based on things that never happen in real life, like companies ordering people to not to say “Happy Thanksgiving” of “Happy Hannukah” or “Happy New Year” or “Merry Christmas” of “Happy You’ve Bought Those Fox News Lies, You Gullible Moron.”
Nobody is guaranteed freedom from exposure to religion, just freedom to practice whatever religion they choose. So Merry Christmas and “God bless us everyone.”
@Jeff HNow, wondering what beheadings has to do with Christmas (although, check out the Old Testament – very vengefull God there), it seems implicit in your comment that you would advocate the Muslim-like practice of forcing your world-view of religion on everyone who doesn’t currently have that same world-view. Except, one would suppose, in the 1st amendment fashion, without, you know, the beheading stuff.
Actually in the 1950’s we said Happy Holidays and Season’s Greetings and also wrote Xmas and nobody noticed because everyone in this town were at least nominally Christian. The pretend war on Christmas was dreamed up by preachers to get more donations. https://www.facebook.com/MANDATORY/photos/a.251564004947905.47255.205523986218574/460807730690197/?type=1&theater
Love her expression in 3rd panel. Heck, I’ll wish a Very Merry Christmas to one and all if I feel like it…no matter what their religion…and usually get it wished back. Lighten up, you all.
Heck, I’m atheist and I’ll say Merry Christmas and respond with a thanks when wished the same.
Or any other holiday someone celebrates. It’s the good wishes that matter (and in the case of Christmas, the event, if it actually happened didn’t happen in December anyway so it’s all a bit of a fiction.
But people get antsy if you wish them Joy at the rebirth of the Unconquered Sun, which is the real original “reason for the season”. :0.
(Sol Invictus if you are curious, major Roman festival in the late Republic and early Empire days. Major competitor to early Christianity.)
“We used to not have Muslim’s beheading Christians and posting the videos on YouTube.”
And when Christians were doing the same to Muslins (and Jews and the wrong “kind” of Christians and “Pagans” and “witches”), video hadn’t been invented yet
Both sides have more blood on their hands than could be washed off with an ocean of tears.

I’m going the other way with this. You don’t like Merry Christmas, fine; you’ll get the Orthodox Christmas greeting: “Christ is born! Glorify Him!”

When the Christmas season begins, that is. This is the season of Advent, not of Christmas.

I think of Christ in Christmas the same why I think of Thor in Thursday. Even we atheists need a winter festival of light and goodwill.
