I used to love pasting my Mother’s S&H Green stamps in those little books. It was real fun because thirty stamps didn’t fit on the page like the printed outlines ! !
Our town had both Green Stamps (Sperry & Hutchinson) and Plaid Stamps (A&P Supermarkets). I still remember going to the shop to redeem the Green Stamps: my grandmother was so proud of the floor lamp she saved up the stamps to buy.
Does anyone remember “The Brady Bunch” episode where there was a contest between the girls (who were saving for a sewing machine) and the boys (who wanted a rowboat): family tension ensued when the trading stamp company was going out of business and neither side had enough books to get what they wanted….
We had S&H and for awhile, King Corn stamps. I remember getting a ball glove from King Corn. Sadly, it was for right-handers and I’m not.I still have the last item I got from S&H. It’s a floor lamp. There are still some stamps in booklets here too.
Back in the day when gas stations did everything they could to court your business, Mohawk stations on the West Coast offered 10X Blue Chip Stamps. We could fill a book in a couple of weeks! It was so wonderful in the days of $2 an hour minimum wage and luxuries were impossible to afford.. I treasured those stamps and cried hysterically iif my Plugger forgot to wait for them. We almost furnished our first house with them. Larger ipremiums had to be picked up at the train staio!

I still have a Blue Chips catalog. I bought a card table and chairs that is still in perfect shape . Finally gave it to my son and his family.

We’re still using the silver ware box from S & H Gweem ( as the kid in the ad called them) stamps.
