Katy: I'm declaring this ranking and bass week. Clayton: It's pronounced "Franklin and Bash". Katy: No. The stop-motion holiday show guys. "Rudolph." Year Without A Santa Claus". "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town." They remind me of my childhood. Clayton: It was a simpler time, wasn't it?

Rankin-Bass also did the stop-animation, “The Little Drummer Boy” (narrated by Greer Garson) and the regular cartoon, “Frosty the Snowman” (narrated by Jimmy Durante).
Those shows are all old but they’re on every year so it doesn’t mean Katy has to be old to have seen them. Besides, Adam may be the type to have all those shows on DVDs.

I remember those Christmas special. And they are special. And the original “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” is way better than the movie.

It was a special the other night on CBS. It is the original Rankin/Bass production with stop action photography. It was also shown in the original for TV 4:3 format as broadcast back in 1964 when it first appeared. I remember watching it as a kid, and later as a parent when our two girls sat glued to the set..Unfortunately, in today’s high definition world, the stop action is now very jerky instead of just a bit blurred as it was in it’s original incarnation. The audio, with Burl Ives and others is fine; but, the video is now just so-so. Too bad, because it is actually a nice piece of Christmas entertainment..Oh well, as Mrs Donner says: “We’ll simply have to overlook it.”Donner: “How can you overlook that? His beak blinks like a blinking beacon.”.Time for another serving of eggnog, with brandy and rum of course…
