Frazz by Jef Mallett for December 20, 2014
Transcript:
Mr. Spaetzle: Stupid back spasms. I had plans for Christmas break. Now I'll spend it on the couch with an ice pack and a bottle of ibuprofen. And eventually realize the only difference is the ice pack and the ibuprofen. Frazz: That hurts. Mr. Spaetzle: And the ibuprofen isn't going to touch that.

I think the point is that he was going to be alone on Christmas, as he had been in the past. The real hurt is that he either has no one, or no one is including him in their Christmas plans. There are many people who spend this wonderful season alone and sad.

Definitely go to a doctor. There are many lines of treatment that could be pursued. A steroid injection might work wonders.

Fit and active people who have no family have been known to spend the holiday alone. They may spend t running or doing something else physical, but that does not guarantee that it won’t be by themselves. Being physically fit does not automatically mean you are surrounded by people, particularly on a day when family is the important component. People with family should be more thoughtful of people without family.
