Actually, space is not a true vacuum. First, it contains matter in the form of planets, stars, and nebulae. Secondly, there are trace amounts of hydrogen between these masses.
I know men who yak on the phone for hours and call their wives when they see a spider…or centipede…or hear a noise. Stereotypes don’t always ring true. Ribbet.
@ BrassOrchid – until a bit more than a century ago it was believed space was filled with aether, which propagated light vibrations. In 1887 Albert Michelson and Edward Morley tried to measure the speed we were traveling through the aether and found it was zero in every direction. This was the basis for Einstein’s theories of relativity
NG, think about it. If the matter has enough physical contact to transmit sound, there is no vacuum. What molecules exist in outer space are counted in very small amounts per thousands of cubic kilometers. Happy New Year!
@Vegas Viper – It’s a waste of time. I’ve asked him BILLIONS and BILLIONS of times and haven’t gotten an answer yet.@A_Dream4u – When you do flip us off, make sure your looking so you can see the planet flipping you off!(Just joking guys)
Yet another reason that searching for radio transmissions from other planets is silly. Even if that form of communication is used on other planets, it would be unlikely to reach us.
@nosirrom“No sound in space? Depends on how you process EM readings.”.The ability to turn something else into sound doesn’t mean that it was actually sound before you did so. Rotating a vinyl record in contact with a stylus in contact with a diaphragm can make sound, but the record isn’t sound.Likewise, a computer can turn ones and zeros into sound, but they weren’t sound until it did.
