Honk!
Ralph: I seem to be getting honked at much more often! I can't tell if I'm getting old, or if society is just getting more rude and impatient!
Norman: You're getting old.
Patrick: Yeah, you only go 10 m.p.h. over the speed limit!
Rule of the road has evolved over the past 10 years: if you are in the left lane, and there is nothing within 10 car lengths in front of you, and you are not passing something in the right lane, you are in the wrong lane.
speed doesn’t bother me as much as not stopping. people have decided that stop signs and traffic lights mean cruise on through if they don’t see anything to slow down for. too bad they don’t see that car, pedestrian, dog. not too bad they don’t see the policeman.
In Arizona when you get a drivers license, it’s good until you turn 65. No renewal test every 5 years or anything. When I moved here from California I handed over my California license, they took a picture and handed me an Arizona license good for 24 years, not even giving a written test making sure I knew what a stop sign meant.
On a related note, Arizona is the worst state in the country as far a pedestrians killed by motor vehicles, and probably near the top in other similar categories.
No way I’ll ever put my family’s lives in the hands of a software glitch or fried motherboard in addition to the already questionable mechanical state of the automobile or fried manual drivers!
shamino: It is part of the Nazification movement. When the Autobahn was built, the left lane was reserved, with no speed limits, for high party officials and the SS (even the Wehrmacht had to use the slow lanes). After the war, the rich war profiteers had it to themselves for their 300 km/h sports cars. Merkel came to power over the Socialist/Green coalition trying to put speed limits on the more congested parts. The Reich-wing in this country is making the left lane the same reserved thing for the rich.
alcluin: “Passing lane”, yes; “stay in the pothole-ridden right lane even though we don’t care about infrastructure when we are out to conquer the world”, that is much more recent.

They’re in San Diego where you wonder each day when you get in the car “Is this my day to die?”

Nope, people are just ruder than ever before. They are more self-centered, and if they aren’t being ego-stroked, they get rude.
