So true. I can’t count the number of times my last boss took credit for things that were entirely my idea from start to finish, many times when I was in the same room. I don’t know if she was oblivious or bullying as I never pressed the issue.

Bullying. Trust me. I had a boss who forbid me to speak during meetings or else… and somehow all my ideas and work became the boss’ ideas and work.

In the service, I had a supervisor who wrote himself up for, and received, a medal for the work I did in setting up an entirely new department. His answer was, “You should have written it for yourself before I did.”

That happened to me, too, but with a happy twist. My boss took credit for my idea and let all HIS bosses know he was totally responsible for it (even though I really was the one). Then there were unforeseen problems that were pretty disastrous and he took the fall for it.

Ever have someone else get his name on a patent for which you did the work?

I work in tech support and our entire department is considered lower-class than everybody else, even though we help thousands and thousands of customers and do our fair share!
