Goat: What do you have there, Rat? Rat: Brand new smartphone. It's incredible. These things can do anything now. Goat; Like what? Rat: I can monitor my health, my physical activity, my heart rate. I can ask it questions. It can pay for things wirelessly. It can take dictation. Oh, and it sends me updates on local weather, so I always have the latest information instantaneously. Goat: Cool, well, show me something. Rat: Okay, here. Watch it download the latest weather info. Goat: it's gonna rain. Rat: Hang on. Still Downloading.

That’s the big problem with smartphones — people rely on them so much that they don’t have smarts of their own anymore.:I’ll stick with my GS170.

I enjoy my smartphone and my tablet, but for the weather, I still look out from my front window. Darn near 100% accurate.

I don’t own a Smartphone, but does get a tad annoying on my Tablet to hit the “Refresh” button and it doesn’t refresh when it comes to the weather.

Look up, Rat! Look up!The trouble is not the smartphone, but rather its obsessive user….

@Sherlock Watson – I’ve got the ‘smarts’, haven’t got a smartphone. Got a 13 year-old phone that does exactly what I want and that is make and receive calls. I think it was Ogden Nash who observed:“There, there little luxury, don’t you cry,You’ll be a necessity bye and bye”.

Smartphone is a nice multi-tool…but not a necessity. Fast phone + slow download = frustrated user.

It’s not smart enough to get in out of the rain.

Smart phones: not very smart, and not very good phones.

I hook my smartphone up to my wifi and it downloads effectively as fast as my computer. I have a trac phone that I buy yearly minutes with. For some things, it’s actually more convenient to use the phone now, rather than my computer. I can even take calls over my wifi, and send texts, so I’m not even using minutes! Can’t do that with an old phone. One of the most cost saving purchases I’ve made, since I need a mobile phone anyway. 8 bucks a month for a phone isn’t bad.

Bought a no-contract Nokia Windows 8 phone last month for $29. Pretty good now that I am using it.

He must have Comcast or Verizon. Ever since the monetization of the internet by creating fast-slow lanes went public, the cable providers has continued to fail to update its hardware or software, Comcast stripped all virus protection out and charged users to prevent it from feeding malware to their machines, and they’ve all lobbied the FCC board to see things their way. Even the President has commented about the poor quality of internet providers in the US. We’ve become the Yugoslavia of the West.

It’s funny when people ONLINE take an anti-technology stance.
