Ice cream not healthy? I love ice cream. Ice cream is a well rounded food. And I’m well rounded. At least that’s what my doctor said when he suggested a gym membership.

If you have made ice cream from scratch, you know that there are a variety of ways to do it, with a variety of different outcomes. You can essentially freeze cream, or, you can make a custard from eggs, milk, etc, and freeze that. It’s highly unlikely that if you are making it yourself that you will add ingredients from corn or seaweed, however, but you can find both in products from the grocery isle. Do all the strange additives make the resulting product better than you would make at home? That’s for you to decide, but I would say no, so if I do buy store ice cream I do tend to read the ingredients. I would expect to find that the ice cream in ice cream sandwiches is higher in additives than some of the more premium brands.

Carageenan and guar gum should not be in ice cream. Put enough of them in and ice cream won’t melt. You shouldn’t have to chew ice cream to get it down.

Funny, but when I have a snack attack, I can usually force myself to eat whatever ice cream is around. I have an idea that Spaceman Spiff would force himself to eat it too, (purely to survive, of course). But if it looked at all like a vegetable, on the other hand….

“Peering into the frozen geyser pit” implies looking down into the freezer case, so he got them from the cafeteria ice cream freezer. My elementary school, junior high, and high school cafeterias all had ice cream freezers, the kind you reach down into, so this strip brought back memories for me.

Given your body really doesn’t care where the protein, carbohydrates, and fat comes from; why not just eat a Snickers with a glass of milk?

It might just be the perfect food…

Most of the school lunches we got fit the stereotype – mystery meat, over salted gravy poured over a lump of starch, vegetables cooked until they were unrecognizable, wiggly salads -But a lot of the food was farm surplus – especially the dairy. We got whole milk, plenty of real butter (which our mother never served at home) and real cheese – none of that cheese food or cheese product which is passed off on kids today. And, fresh bread.

The Sunday Spiff strips were the best. Once I seen it was Spiff, I’d put my hand over the last panel and try to figure out how Spiff’s predicament fit into what Cal was doing in real life.

Bloom County is back (with scattered Hobbes appearances). 2015 would become a great year if C&H would make a comeback.

Why Suzie, whatever do you mean? He’s having vegetables and milk! Chocolate is a veggie, don’t you know that? It’s made from beans!

Maybe I’ll have some ice cream now, real vanilla with Hershey Syrup, some pecan bits, and topped with Reddi Whip and a cherry!

    Yeah, that’s it…

I love the real life things this strip is based on.

The scavengers are the student body in line to get lunch.

In the lunch line, the meat is disgusting and the vegetables are indigestible.

Nearing the end of the lunch line and without any food, Calvin looks into the freezer and finds ice cream sandwiches.
