6th grade (1971 or 2?) we had a year of the decimal. that was it. i’m not a fast learner o things like that so the end of the year it was lost. I do wish we were with the rest of the world though. One year and it got cut, I don’t know why either, Maybe they will teach it again?? Or will we have to go out into the world, No wonder we don’t have job skills needed for better ones. Most tools are metric anyway..
I tried that argument many times when it looked as if we might go metric. “It’s all tens! Who can’t multiply and divide by ten?” It fell on deaf ears. People couldn’t get past: “It’s too new. I’ll never get used to it. We’ll have to change the words of so many songs!” And so on…
Plenty of European countries also using old units for many situations, they’re half in and half out. For that matter, here in the US plenty of science and engineering done in metric

Why do Americans insist on continuing to use Fahrenheit? The rest of the World uses Celsius – come join us in the 21st Century.

Inches and miles are human measures.
Kilometres derive from the size of our planet, via a particular Francophile political action :-)

Not bringing up the Mars climate orbiter. Not bringing up… Heck. I never was able to resist a red button.
Have you tried switching to (kilo) newton force?

One of the more useful tools of the engineering profession was the handy dandy conversion book.

Still, it’s nice to have a unit between .3937 inches and 3.28 feet. I know there decimeters, but I never hear anybody use them.

So why don’t we use base 10 on clocks?

There are 5,280 Feet in a mile (based on the average stride of a Roman soldier).

Our medium-sized plant spent $1.5 million. And we had all of the engineers in and ready for action at midnight.
