How do you press and pull the whisker against a scissor without hurting the cat? I wonder how many cats will suffer as a result of this strip. Retraction needed.
It turns out, cat’s whiskers are an essential sensory mechanism. Damage a cat’s whiskers and it will cause them not only discomfort, but also to become confused and disorientated, among other negative side effects… I usually really enjoy “Pickles” but this particular strip was NOT COOL!
Normally Pickles is one of my favorite strips and very funny. This Sundays strip suggesting that it’s ok to apply scissors to a cats whiskers in any manner is approving animal cruelty! Shame on Brian Crane for doing this and on Go Comics for publishing it.
Brian Crane,,,shame on you. I’ve been following your "cartoon strip for some time, This is not cartoon material. It is not funny at all…Please, no more dumb stuff like this…
This strip is very wrong and irresponsible. Without their tactile hairs, cats become very disoriented and frightened. In short, whiskers enable cats to gauge and make sense of their environment. Whiskers do grow back, but cats need their whiskers to remain intact in the same way you and I need our touch senses to get around. That is, cats use their whiskers in the same way that we use the touch receptors in our finger tips to feel our way around in the darkness, and to alert us to potentially painful situations.
I saw this strip in my newspaper this morning and was instantly angry. This gives kids ideas and they sure don’t need any new ones. I wonder how many eye and other injuries will result from this.
I skipped the last several comments, my apologies if covered already— Why has no one said anything about spouse abuse, it goes both ways. That being said, I actually thought this was a funny strip, and am saving it to my computer. I guess my earlier comment was a little heavy-handed. Perhaps I should lighten up a little. and remember this is just a comic.
I agree with puddymom…actually..someone like you needs to be locked up & throw away the key…i found todays strip very disturbing also..i am an animal lover too….i really enjoy this strip..a lot..but todays was quite disturbing…& i hope & pray that cat lovers take give extra love to them from now on..

Okay, I’m no animal rights activist and I particularly don’t like cats. However, scissor-curling a cats whiskers sounds like excessively cruel treatment. How could am self-respecting pet owner by so cruel to their cat?

I’m sure it’s something that even if succeeded once would wear thin in the repeating and so would be a short-lived phase.

This is stupid and cruel. Cats use their whiskers for many reasons and should not be cut, curled, etc.

Please, no one actually do this!!! Omg…..

My cat has one whisker that curls all by itself. I would never dream of trying to make the rest match. Cruel to him and just plain dumb.
