Oh come on people. “Lay” instead of “lie” is just wrong. Third graders know that. I suppose that today it is acceptable misuse of the language since everybody in print and on the air and internet makes the same mistake. Too bad.
It’s “lie out all day” and there should be a “?” after “You brought swatches.” Certainly a humorous concept, but grammatically incorrect. It sets a bad example for pupils and students. Why can’t such cartoons be both humorous and iinstructive? Is it geeky to educate while amusing?
I almost never get any color. When I was a teenager, during summer vacation, I would spend almost every sunny day, from after breakfast to dinnertime, outside with my lawn chair, a few good books and my transistor radio. However, on the first day of school, I would always get asked, “Didn’t you go outside at all?”
As there was no such thing as SPF in the Middle Ages, Blanche will probably be peeling on her return home. As others have mentioned, skin cancer may well be in her future. I get stuff frozen off every six months as a consequence of several summers as a lifeguard nearly 50 years ago. Act in haste, repent at leisure. There is no such thing as a “healthy tan”.
oh I can’t believe you guys! It’s an effing cartoon for pete’s sake! and I told an Olde Joke!Blanche can’t be offended because she’s not real, and I bet Parker and Hart have better sense than to be offended!
you’re quite an item aren’t you? Who around me have I criticized? So your thing is to pick on people who make jokes about cartoon characters? I suppose that makes you feel good about yourself, in your oh-so-smugness.

just … stay in the lawn chair.you don’t want to go lay out on the beach and have a bunch of good samaritans try to push you back out into the ocean!

If she’s going to “lay” about all day, I’d like to see the eggs she lays. But if she’s going to “lie” about all day, then that’s ok.

I remember getting “laid” on a beach at night once! We were staying at the Sheraton Molokai in the Hawaiian Islands…

That has nothing to do with the evolution of English usage, which is what I was talking about.
