We tried the new calendar in France, with a base 10 for the number of days. 12 months of 30 days plus four or five days added to the end. With new names for the months and for the years. It worked for 14 years before the switch back to the old tried and true calendar. With great relief.

However, I am surprised that an American kid would offer to create a 13 months year as the number is supposed to be even more bad luck than in Europe.

Metrification first, to catch up with the rest of the world. Only then think about ‘improving’ everybodies calendar.

Seventy-three five-day weeks. Five major segments, each of seventy-three days. Leap years would add an un-numbered leap day in Mid-July, which would always extend a weekend to three days while still maintaining the grueling schedule of the three-day work week.Metrification is for people who can’t handle hexadecimal and other complex schemes requiring mental exercise for no other reason than to have mental exercise. Length, volume and weight are the triathlon of mental acuity.

Let’s just use the Martian calendar & be half as old.

Careful you don’t get 13 Friday the 13ths in a year. I don’t worry about it, but in sure would get tired of hearing about it.

How about two months each with 182.75 days?

How many of y’all knew that the years 2100, 2200 and 2300 will not be leap years?

The current calendar is a compromise, trying to sync the Lunar Phase calendar with the Solar Year calendar. The result is, they don’t sync. =)

how about just skip using months and just use days and numbers. months have no real purpose anyway.

Fairportfan2: That rational system was defeated by the US after an outburst by fundamentalists concerned about their sabbaths not being seven days apart. Apparently, their religion forbids them crossing the International Date Line.

I don’t care about the MONTHS, but I’d like to see a calendar with 8 day WEEKS. Much simpler for shift workers, and people who must have continuous coverage of their jobs.

This has actually been proposed.

I’ve seen this before as a Business friendly calendar. The Days of the week would always fall on the same numbers Month to month. It makes sense

The most frustrating thing is having September, October, November and December not being the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th months, respectively. Durn, vain Roman Emperors.

Exoticdoc2: The seasons would align the same every year with thirteen 28 day months. If you divide 365 by 13, you get 28.08, so the calendar would still span a full solar year, just divided up differently. What WOULDN’T line up would be lunar cycles, but they don’t line up currently anyway. I’d be all for a 13 month calendar with 28 days each, but some things should be changed. The first day of the year, for example, should happen around the summer solstice, or better yet the spring equinox. Of course those in the southern hemisphere would disagree with my definition of summer and winter, but you can’t please everyone…

The Baha’i calendar has 19 years of 19 months with 4-5 intercalary days, one of which (probably not coincidence) lands on February 29.
