She changed back to Monday’s (non-birthday) clothes.
The colorist must be having fun.
Templo… why does being a “guy” have anything to do with it?
It’s not exactly secret.
BTW… it’s a group for older ladies…you have to be at least 50 to wear the red hat and purple clothes.Under-50’s have to wear lavender clothes and a pink hat, to show that they’re just kids….
And to those who quibble about conformity, or not pursuing a noble cause….
You’re talking about usually three or four hours a MONTH.
Can’t you please allow a few middle-aged ladies that much time to just put on silly clothes and go out to lunch or a museum in a light-hearted group?
Some chapters have occasional events they work on for longer…while some never do more than meet at a coffee shop a few times a year…but one of the rules is that they meet for fun, not duty or business, for which they have the whole other part of their lives.
I used to be a Red Hatter … but my small chapter, being composed of a gaggle of pretty disorganised non-conformists, unsurprisingly kinda fell apart…Especially after the national organisation starting collecting annual dues, and sponsoring expensive events that none of us could afford to attend.
There are many of us Red Hatters still around – and still having fun. I have made so many wonderful friends through this organization, gone places I probably wouldn’t have gone alone and still get a kick out of “dressing up”, putting on my glitziest jewelry and just having fun. I am 71, retired from a very demanding career, raised 3 kids [4 if you count the husband] and it is time to just have some fun.
When I am an old woman I shall wear purpleWith a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me,And I shall spend my pensionon brandy and summer glovesAnd satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,And run my stick along the public railings,And make up for the sobriety of my youth.I shall go out in my slippers in the rainAnd pick the flowers in other people’s gardens,And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,Or only bread and pickle for a week,And hoard pens and pencils and beer matsand things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,And pay our rent and not swear in the street,And set a good example for the children. We will have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practise a little now?So people who know meare not too shocked and surprised,When suddenly I am oldand start to wear purple!Jenny Joseph
Yes the Red Hat Society is going strong and celebrates their 17th year anniversary on April 25th. a world wide society.. It truly is a amazing group of women from all walks of life and backgrounds. I have been a member for over 5 years. I would have joined sooner but I didnt know you could belong if you were under 50. There is no minimum age…. Those under 50 wear pink and lavender till their reduation where they earn the right to wear a red hat and purple…. I have meet so many amazing new friends! I play online in virtual chapters, offline with local groups, when budget and time allows I travel to larger regional and international conventions. The theme for the RHS this year is SIMPLY FUN. it’s east to join at http://www.redhatsociety.com (please add referral code A789458 so we both get a entry in the current giveaway).

As a guy, I’d like to know how long this women’s club has been in operation.

I thought the Red Hats had been around much longer than 1998. Live and learn.

The Red Hat organization has been around since 1998. The actual Red Hat ladies have been around a lot longer.

I ran across a group in Primm, Nevada (formerly Stateline – on the CA/NV line) riding the monorail between the casinos. They were having a blast.
