Poor understanding of optics here – while the portions of the mirror which are convex (upper and lower parts) will make parts of the viewer’s reflection “thinner” (by elongating the image vertically) the concave part (middle) will make that part of the image “fatter” (by compressing the image vertically). A mirror concave in the horizontal direction is what is wanted here. (I have seen this kind of error in more than one comic over the years.)
