    I knew a guy who got a PhD in physics, a ton of debt to go along with it, then couldn’t find a job. It’s not like you can switch tracks when you are in that deep for that long. Sad story and way too many like it.

    Astronomer’s Median annual salary $103,220. Not bad work if you can get it! In recent years, there have been about 150 job openings for astronomers in North America.

    You could always get a job writing for creationist websites, and explaining how the light from the Andromeda galaxy (2.7 million light-years away) or from quasar 2C273 (2.4 billion light-years away) is only 6,000 years old.Best part of that job is that you don’t actually have to do any work—no observations, no calculations—you can just make stuff up!
