Joe: Hey, Rat... Did you change your out-of-office reply like I asked? Rat: Yes, sir, have a look. Hello. I will be on vacation and unavailable for the next three days. After that, I'll be available, but will still try very hard to avoid you. Joe: I don't think you're getting this. Rat: You should hear my outgoing phone message.

Three days isn’t a vacation, it’s just a long weekend.

I’m astounded that Rat thinks somebody will want to call him.

Wouldn’t ever put that on my out of office reply, but I would be lying if I didn’t think it sometimes…

I think the bigger question is, since when do you have company email when you work at a coffee shop?

This series has really lost me. Why on earth would anyone other than his boss need to call his personal phone? It’s a coffee bar. Not an office where he has to coordinate with a dozen people. It lacks any sort of funny.

Apparently it has been lost in translation. The location (coffee shop) does not matter, the idea of the joke is the kind of messages someone might put on their e-mail. Way too much overthinking on this……

@defunctdoormatThis is a comic, not real life!

To dufunctdoormat and flyfisher: It’s a cartoon !! It’s not supposed to be realistic or sensible ! Lighten up and enjoy the silly stuff. :)If you want serious and realism, watch the evening news…

a friend, retired now, from barnes and noble, sick of their announcements, wanted one morning to get on the microphone and say" good morning, the time is now 9:00 a.m. and barnes and noble will be closing in 13 short hours. please make your final selections and bring your purchases to the front register please." he was persuaded that this was a bad idea. oh well

If I were Joe, I think I’d be grateful that Rat was avoiding talking to my customers!

Why would a barista have company email and voice mail anyway?!
