no, it’s what they used to call a “pay phone”. “Land line” is from the future.

That is the rarest of the rare, even back then: a working pay phone that still has a phone book.

“What is that thing he’s talking into? Is that what they used to call a “Land Line”??”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Back in the days when that was the only phone available, we didn’t call it a ‘Land Line;’ we called it a ‘phone.’

“Land line” has been around since the ’70s CB craze, maybe longer.

““Land line” has been around since the ’70s CB craze, maybe longer.”~~~~~~~~~~Nawp…. I remember it from the Army of the early ’50’s.. It got popular with the CB’ers 30 years later when kids discovered they could ‘troll’ and ‘cuss’ just like truck drivers. And now their progeny lurk around websites to ‘comment’ in languages inarticulate to even themselves. Jes’ sayin’..

Duke is maybe the 11th best character in comic strip history (whereas Zonker makes the top 10). Having them both in one strip always seemed to be like hogging the ball.

In THE DEAD ZONE Johnny Smith asks the doctor what he would do if he knew for an absolute fact what Hitler would do if not stopped back before he had done it..The doctor reminds him that he took an oath to do no harm, to relieve human suffering and therefore he would kill the SOB.

.Steven King showed there was another way which did not require murder even though it did require personal sacrafice on his part. .There is no telling how much tragedy has been avoided over the years by the dangerous politicians who were exposed ere they reached the presidency..In like manner, keeping Hitler out of politics might have stopped the attrocities unless they were inevitable under the teachings of the assorted groups and unless the Jews were warned and armed.

Duke is 2 steps ahead. Plus1981, no modern day cell phones to track you, and your calls; and no camera’s in the hospital waiting room. No so today.
