Fun trivia: the alligator is actually a crocodile, for the inventor of the shirt, René “The Crocodile” LaCoste, famed French tennis star of the 1920s.

I cheated….I bought little alligator patch pieces and sewed them on my shirts in the proper place. I looked cool.
Now that I think about it, those alligators were the real deal (unlike the shirts). I bought old “real” shirts at the thrift store and cut the patch off to sew onto a new “generic” shirt.
I was called a preppie when I bought a Volvo in ‘82. Does that count? Don’t recall ever dressing like one…
