If they even cooled off a bit, the land would begin to dry out. All of the glaciers would begin to recede and deserts would start to encroach upon formerly arable lands. But that can never happen with the Sun so close, so there is no need to worry about it.
Salt water has to get 3.6 degrees colder than fresh water before it freezes. So this could never happen because we never see such huge temp fluctuations in this world, right?? [;-)
The oceans have frozen over to a depth of at least a kilometer in time gone by. About the time of the melting was about the time of the rise of nucleated cells..The thawing was caused by a buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because it couldn’t dissolve in the water due to the ice barrier. When it did melt the ice, the carbon dioxide dissolved and precipitated out a thick layer of carbonates around the world, not of biological creation..Most interesting.
The term “suddenly” in the scope of our planet is a fairly significant amount of time..Regardless of what we do or don’t do, eventually the third rock from the sun will belch and start over…

I’m just always amazed at how he gets those rock slabs to float.

It is not a worry. All will be ok. Grow up and live your lives. The sky is not falling.
