Coach Hacker: Opening day! Caulfield: Baseball started a long time ago. Coach Hacker: Spring training did. Caulfield: That's still baseball season. Coach Hacker: No, it's not. Caulfield: Whatever. I'm already tired of it. Sportswriters do to baseball what department stores do to Christmas.

I try not to pay too much attention to the sports writers. I just trot myself down to the minor league park and enjoy the game.
11 Days to the home opener. Go Rainiers

I always thought it was a brilliant gimmick by major league baseball – have something going all year ’round to keep in the headlines. The winter meetings steal attention from football and basketball, spring training steals attention from college sports . . . it was a clever tactic.

An anti-baseball statement on Opening Day? (I’ll be making my 36th Dodger Home Opener in just a few hours) — Mallet is dead to me.

I love Opening Day! If you don’t, then don’t watch it. I do the same in November with all the ads.
Go Tigers!!!

No, Caulfield, they don’t. You’re wrong on this one. Now, football and basketball — those sports have interminably long seasons.

Sitting in the sun with all things possible in the season to come — attending an opening day game is one of my favorite activities..Then the Rockies are eliminated by June and the rest of the season gets really, REALLY long..Sigh.
