Janis: That sounded close!
Arlo: Count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder and divide by five!
BOOM.
Janis: You always were good with numbers!
I was going to say multiply by 3 when I realised Arlo is probably using the strange feet system instead of the more friendly metric system (speed of sound is 300 meters per second, time x seconds = distance between lightning and you). How does yours work and how fast can someone divide 2 by 5?
Jessica_D: Count chimpanzees. Or ear worm a Sousa march, a downbeat comes every second (120 beats per minute, downbeat upbeat); British marches don’t work, they are at 100 beats per minute.

I’m not a fan of thunder, but man, do I sleep well when it rains.

I learned it as counting the "mississippi"s between lightening and thunder (or 1 one hundred but mississippi is more fun)
