Did Bernice ever give the Deck of Destiny a try?

Hmm…

The knot represents the knot of nerves in her stomach. Does she love theater enough to go into debt for a less than lucrative career? Or is she just doing it because Quill is? Does she want something more practical to support a future family?

The volcano represents the big event that will help her decide.

The lightening bolt represents her epiphany after the big event.

The banana peel represents all of the people laughing at her problems before, during, and afterward.

New York would be fun and educational, but so could other things. Her mom doesn’t work, so her family isn’t rolling in extra funds. New York means not doing something else.

Oh come on, the tuition costs at most American community colleges are negligible compared to the costs of living. She could have gone to a major uni out of state or something, than maybe they could complain, but as is… nah.

Not sure Bernice is snarking so much as she’s taking a very literal interpretation of the symbols rather than a looser more personal interpretation. She seems confused about how to interpret the cards rather than scornful, at least to me.Someone mentioned Crystal/Tiffany in comparison to Bernice/Luann. To me the difference is, Bernice may present it badly, and be a wet towel, but I believe she really cares about Luann. Crystal seems to love her own self image, the way she dresses and tries to hard so seem superior and witty at Tiffany’s expense. Crystal went to Luann’s Gunther Party but didn’t go to Tiffany’s big dorm room event. Frankly I think Tiffany’s friendship with Crystal is one sided. Tiffany flatters Crystal’s ego. It doesn’t mean Crystal is a monster for being herself while Tiff hangs out with her, just, I think Bernice actually really is Luann’s friend, and that is a difference between the two duos.

I always knew Luann was dumb, but I never figured her to be this dumb.

So to make sure I understand this correctly, Luann won’t listen to Bernice because she’s not jumping up and down with excitement for her but she’ll but stock in a bunch of cards.?

My interpretation of the cards: While on Broadway (the lights of symbolized by the lightning bolt), Luann and Quill will have an eruption of wild passion (gee guys, get a room) for each other (symbolized by the volcano) in which Quill will propose to Luann (symbolized by the knot) but before she can answer she falls on a banana peel! Ta-Da! I can see the strip clearly in my mind. Damn, these cards really work!

Anyone who uses a deck of cards, tea leafs, lines on their palm, etc. as a guide for how they live needs help.

My interpretation….. THE KNOT = Luann’s usual indecision about most things, she vacillates back and forth (we are on the New York upswing at the moment, but there should be a downswing too; THE VOLCANO = eruption of her parents perhaps, or perhaps an explosive idea by Luann to scheme a way to make NY happen; THE LIGHTNING BOLT = energy, the huge amount of energy Luann will devote to scheming and trying to figure out a way to go to NY; THE BANANA PEEL = the conclusion, where no method pans out from Luann’s schemes, and she does not go to NY….. and neither does Quill…. he does not get accepted.

I agree with your first interpretation.- However, the banana peel has to mean a slip up, like tripping while walking down the aisle, or, perhaps the condom breaking. -The volcano the eruption of her parents tempers when they find out the results of the banana,-- and the lightening bolt which will strike down all those who didn’t believe they would get to the wedding.

Bernice is blessed with the gift of interpretation.I can tell because she understood the message even faster than I did.

I was just thinking of a life filled with energy, bound by circumstances, erupting explosively on occasion, leading to slips and falls if not watch full.

Bernice is looking kind of bitter and jealous right about now… If pointing out a so-called BFF’s faults is being a good friend, then she’s good one. Luanne may be goofy, but she’s not promoting the idea of Bernice being a boring geekette with no boyfriends and an affection for serial bad hairdos..

Luann can be so gullible and childlike… her eyes popping out of her head and the belief that these cards hold the key to her future. I’d be worried about her walking the streets of NYC (or any big city) by herself while Quill is busy. I live there so I know.

By the way, where did all of Dez’s friends go? It seemed like while she was gone Bernice had a constant stream of them coming and going to and from the dorm room.

I’m kind of worried about JayBlue. It’s so weird he would disappear like this without posting some kind of advisory. We haven’t heard from him for five days now. I hope he’s okay.

From some of the stories you’ve posted, that would be a fun and entertaining book! You should do it, you seem to be a talented writer.

Luann’s wide-eyed gullibility over the Tarot cards reflects her inability to chart her own course; she can’t even focus her interests enough to choose a possible major in college much less plan a direction in life. Thus she is easy prey for the cards. She can’t figure what she wants to do.. hence her excitement that something or someone will figure it out for her.
