However, Ellroy is a ruthless self-promoter who will twist facts to sell another copy of one of his books. Dude, we’re tired of hearing how your mother was the Black Dahlia, okay?

Also, Isaac Asimov. He wrote over 450 books, and I doubt he had read that many because he would not have had time.
