In one Disney “Aladdin” TV series episode, Genie was somehow decapitated and he whistled for his body’s attention when it occurred to him that “[he’s] the part with ears.”
I know it’s cartoon physics, but Lio is covering the ears. Not that it would help the rest of the body to hear.

Dang! Where is the Harryhausen tech crew when you really, really need them? (A little Jason… ref there for Lio.)
How can it hear Lio when it’s ears are on the skull?
