I was wondering where Mr Hinds was going with this. BRAVO, Bill, for keeping the magic alive.

My son, who was 7 at the time, shook Mike Schmidt’s hand during a “Meet the Players” event at Veteran’s Stadium. The crowd was so dense, you couldn’t see my son’s face in the picture I took, except for his little arm. Now 41, he met Schmidt again recently, and asked if he would autograph the picture, explaining that it was his hand he was shaking. Schmidt did, but also autographed his arm with a Sharpie. What a guy.

So far, #24 has been worn by 793 (has links to all names) players.Unless your favorite player wore that number, I think pretty much everyone associates #24 with Willie Mays; but, he was the star of the team for much longer than 10 years, and Rickey Henderson never had 10 consecutive years with one team.My guess is Ken Griffey, Jr.; but, 5’10", 160 lb, Jim (Jimmy) Wynn, from the Mini Mortar nickname, is also a possibility, for JoJo Jolley.

Jimmy Wynn …‘The Toy Cannon’. Bill Hinds grew up in Houston and still lives in the Houston area. The Colt 45s (Astros) began play in old Colt Stadium where the heat and mosquitos ruled.

Great strip. I’ve regressed to a giggling schoolgirl on a couple occasions. Notably Fergie jenkins and Don Mattingly

At the parade celebrating George Brett’s election to the Hall of Fame, Whitey Herzog gave me a dirty look for the anti-Cardinals tee shirt I was wearing—does that count as a brush with baseball greatness?

This one should be put in the Hall of Fame. The BASEBALL Hall of Fame.

I couldn’t remember what day this strip posted…went searching- glad it was a short search.Wonderful strip. I got Gordie Howe’s autograph for my dad – I was all giggles. (Doesn’t matter the sport, what matters is the memories and how we feel when we meet a sports hero.)
